ChEmference, an annual conference for graduate students in Chemical Engineering, is primarily an avenue for students across India to come together in order to assimilate and exchange ideas in diverse areas that now constitute the field of Chemical Engineering.

ChEmference was conceived as an in-house symposium at the Chemical Engineering Department, IIT Kanpur. With an intention of benefiting the wider student community, ChEmference was transformed into a national level conference in the year 2008, seeing participation of researchers from several well-known institutes all over India including IITs and IISc.

The baton of organizing the conference passed on to IIT Madras in 2009 and back to IIT Kanpur in 2010, witnessing tremendous growth each year.

This year it is our privilege to organize it at IISc Bangalore on September 23 and 24, 2011.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was conceived as a 'Research Institute' or 'University of Research' by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, in the twilight years of the 19th century.

Department of Chemical Engineering began as a center for excellence in research and higher education in chemical engineering to address the needs of a phenomenally growing chemical industry in post-independence India.
