As mentioned in www.iisc.ac.in/admissions, the eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D/M.Tech(Res) program of the Chemical Engineering Department are: BE / B Tech or equivalent degree or M.Sc or equivalent degree in any branch of Science (with Mathematics as a subject at the Bachelor’s level) or Graduates of 4-year Bachelor of Science programmes.
For more information, please visit the IISc Admissions website.
Usually, the interviews are conducted in two stages. A screening committee interviews the candidate for 15-20 minutes on basic mathematics and general chemical engineering principles. To deal with large number of applicants, the screening is done with a written test in some admission sessions. To give you an idea of the level of questions, some sample questions are provided below.
If cleared by the screening committee, the candidates are interviewed by a second committee to assess the candidates suitability for admission to the research programme.
Please note that candidates appearing through the external registration program (ERP) are treated on par with regular candidates for interviews and will undergo the two stage interview process outlined above.
For the cutoff scores from previous years for the interview call, please visit IISc admissions website. The candidates are required to note that the above cutoffs are only a guideline and the cutoff for the GATE score will change depending on the number of candidates applying to the programme.
