Tailored Growth and Manipulation of 2D Materials for Optoelectronics and Energy Harvesting.
The increasing demand for smarter and more energy-efficient devices has driven the search for novel materials with enhanced functionalities. Monolayers of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), with their tunable properties, have demonstrated immense potential in applications such as optoelectronics, flexible electronics, spintronics, and catalysis. However, despite their promise, the commercialization of these materials remains a challenge, primarily due to the lack of scalable techniques for their synthesis and manipulation. This presentation will highlight out recent findings on tailored growth and manipulation of 2D TMDCs. Our work focuses on elucidating the fundamental principles of growth, enabling strategies for precise and scalable synthesis. We further leverage advanced defect engineering, innovative doping methods, and phase engineering to finely tune their electronic and optical properties. Key findings on morphology-controlled growth and doping in atomically thin systems illustrate how “designer materials” can unlock unprecedented functionalities. By establishing pathways for controllable, large-scale fabrication, these efforts pave the way for next-generation device platforms in optoelectronics, energy harvesting, and beyond.
