In this seminar, I will present theoretical and computational approaches to model the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2R) to carbon monoxide (CO). CO is the simplest product of CO2R, but accurately determining its rate-limiting step and reaction kinetics across materials remains challenging. We will describe different and sometimes competing phenomena at the electrochemical interface and assess their influence on a reaction’s free energy (∆G) and activation energy (Ga).
